The Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) welcomed the defection of a military force from Suleiman Sandal’s militia and its decision to join the movement’s ranks and declare its support for the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Joint Force.
In a statement today (Thursday), the movement’s Secretary of Information and official spokesperson, Dr. Mohammed Zakaria, said the joining force is led by Brigadier Bashir Abakar Abdelsalam and comprises 15 officers and more than 250 non-commissioned officers and soldiers.
He described the move as reflecting “a deep awareness of the reality of the conflict” and recognition that Sudan’s future and the dignity of its people require standing alongside the state and its legitimate institutions.
Zakaria affirmed that the force’s accession represents a significant addition to the ranks of the national resistance, supports efforts to defend the homeland, and contributes to strengthening security and stability. He noted that the movement would complete the necessary integration procedures and arrangements for the new members, enabling them to perform their role alongside their fellow fighters.
The JEM spokesperson renewed the movement’s call to all those who have been misled to reconsider their positions and align themselves with the will of the people and the interests of the nation. He affirmed that the movement’s doors would remain open to anyone who chooses to stand with the state and the Sudanese people.
The accession of the new force comes amid continued military and political efforts to reorganize the ranks of armed groups supporting the Sudanese Armed Forces amid the ongoing war in the country.
