IFRC and Red Crescent Societies Mourns Sudanese Red Crescent Volunteer Killed in RSF Attack
Khartoum – Sudan Horizon
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has expressed profound sorrow over the death of Badr Al-Din Omar Musa Ibrahim, a Sudanese Red Crescent volunteer who was killed on October 13, 2026, following an attack by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia on a hospital in Blue Nile State.
According to a statement issued by the federation, Badr Al-Din, 33, was a member of the Sudanese Red Crescent’s Emergency Volunteer Team in Blue Nile State, where he had served for six years. He was providing first aid at the health center in the Umm Darfa area when the incident occurred, following reports of shelling.
The statement said the IFRC extends its heartfelt condolences to Badr Al-Din’s family and friends, as well as his fellow volunteers and colleagues at the Sudanese Red Crescent, during this difficult time.
The federation said his death was a painful reminder of the dangers faced by humanitarian workers and volunteers who dedicate themselves to helping others, often under extremely hazardous conditions.
The international humanitarian organization did not identify those responsible for the attack. However, the Sudan Doctors Network reported the incident last week, stating that two healthcare workers had been injured and the hospital destroyed. At the time, the network strongly condemned what it described as an RSF drone attack on Umm Darfa Hospital in Wad Al-Mahi locality, Blue Nile State, on Sunday, October 11, 2026.
The network said the attack destroyed the hospital and forced it out of service, while leaving two medical staff members seriously injured as they carried out their humanitarian duties.
Preliminary information indicated that the attack caused extensive damage to the hospital, threatening to deprive local residents and internally displaced people of essential healthcare services at a time when the area is facing highly complex humanitarian and health conditions.
In its statement, the Sudan Doctors Network held the RSF fully responsible for targeting Umm Darfa Hospital and for the resulting damage and injuries among medical personnel. It called for an end to repeated attacks on healthcare facilities, which have increasingly come under direct attack during military operations.
The federation said Badr Al-Din had served his community with dedication and compassion, adding that his passing had brought deep sorrow to the Red Cross and Red Crescent network. His contributions to the people he helped, it said, would remain in the memory of those he served.
According to statistics from the Sudanese Red Crescent Society, 25 of its volunteers have been killed while performing their duties since the outbreak of war on April 15, 2023.
