Sudan’s Ambassador to Moscow: Russia Demonstrated its Balanced Stance Towards Sudan UNSC

Sudan’s Ambassador to Russia, Mohamed Al-Ghazali, has commended Russia’s position during Monday’s UN Security Council (UNSC) session devoted to the situation in the Sudan.

Al-Ghazali told Sudanhorizon news website that the Russian representative’s statement was consistent with sound logic and called things by their proper names. He noted Russia’s rejection of equating the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) with militias, particularly in light of attempts by some parties to ban the use of drones, which the SAF relies on as part of its constitutional responsibility to maintain the country’s security and sovereignty. He added that SAF is also working to neutralize a rebel force that systematically uses drones to target civilians and civilian infrastructure.

The ambassador affirmed that the Russian position aligns with established norms of international relations, the guiding principles of the UN Charter, and the rules governing relations between states. He added that the Moscow representative’s statement revealed a firm and balanced stance towards Sudan, which is appreciated and commended by the Sudanese government and people.

Al-Ghazali pointed out that Russia rejected equating SAF with the rebel militias, and presented logical approaches by attributing the failure of the political settlement efforts and the five- and four-party initiatives to an attempt to force the Sudanese government to make unacceptable concessions.
