Khartoum – Sudanhorizon
The Acting Undersecretary at the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, Dr. Hind Mohamed Ahmed, held a meeting on Tuesday with the supervisory mission of the Sustainable Natural Resources and Livelihoods Program of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), headed by the organization’s Country Director, Zoran Al-Eryani.
The meeting discussed the project’s performance evaluation and reviewed the progress of the Sustainable Natural Resources and Livelihoods Program, which has been implemented in seven Sudanese states: Kassala, Gedaref, Sinnar, Gezirah, North Kordofan, Khartoum, and River Nile. The aim was to assess the program’s achievements and address the challenges facing its implementation.
The supervisory mission affirmed its intention to conduct field visits to the seven states in the coming period to monitor the program’s activities, review the results achieved, and evaluate performance on the ground to enhance implementation efficiency and achieve the desired development goals.
The IFAD Country Director, Dhuran Al-Eryani, explained that the project faces several obstacles, most notably the lack of vehicles needed to carry out field activities.
He called on the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation to coordinate with the Ministry of Finance to find solutions to overcome this obstacle and ensure the project’s continuation.
He recommended the formation of a joint technical executive body comprising representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation and IFAD. This body would be responsible for monitoring the program’s implementation, overseeing the resolution of challenges, and enhancing coordination among the various stakeholders to ensure the project’s objectives are met and performance efficiency is improved.
The Sustainable Natural Resources and Livelihoods Program is a development program aimed at improving natural resource management, boosting agricultural production, and raising the income levels of rural communities. This contributes to achieving sustainable development and improving livelihoods in the targeted states.
