Sudanese Liberal Party Leader Calls for a New National Alignment Free of Fencesitting

Dr. Mayada Siwar Al-Dahab has called for the establishment of “a new national alignment based on clear and consistent national standards, far removed from vague slogans and ambiguous positions, with the supreme national interest serving as the sole reference for evaluating political positions, alliances, and choices.”

In a press statement issued on Thursday, the leader of the Sudanese Liberal Party urged all national forces, public figures, and components of Sudanese society “to review their positions and clearly align themselves with the project of the national state, its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independent decision-making, away from external calculations or narrow political interests.”

She argued that the current phase “requires a genuine national differentiation between those who stand with the state and its institutions and those who seek, directly or indirectly, to reproduce the crisis or provide political cover for forces that contributed to undermining it.”

The statement added that “Sudan today needs a sincere national alignment that lays the foundation for a new phase defined by national responsibility and unity, placing the supreme national interest above all other considerations as the sole criterion around which all patriotic forces concerned with the country’s security, stability, and future should unite.”

Dr. Mayada reaffirmed the party’s previously stated position that “Sudan’s current struggle is not merely a military confrontation but a comprehensive national battle that requires clarity of positions and consistency with national principles and constants.”

She stated that, from this perspective, support for the Sudanese Armed Forces remains a national necessity, but that such support alone is insufficient unless accompanied by full alignment with the national will that rejects any project aimed at legitimizing or politically reintroducing the rebellion under any name.

The remarks came against the backdrop of recent political developments and what she described as “repeated attempts to market projects and initiatives that promote political normalization with the rebel militia through various platforms and slogans that outwardly call for dialogue but in reality provide political cover for forces and groups linked to the rebellion or that sought to justify its actions against the state and its citizens.”

She further stressed that the current stage requires redefining the national political current according to clear standards that leave no room for ambiguity or compromise. These standards, she said, should be based on explicit support for the national state and its institutions, rejection of foreign interference, and full commitment to Sudan’s supreme interests rather than narrow partisan calculations or political ambitions.

Dr. Mayada concluded by stating that positions regarding current initiatives, settlements, and proposals—including those associated with the Quintet Mechanism and related political arrangements—have become a real test of national commitment rather than merely a matter of differing political opinions.
