Ministry of Energy: Efforts to Mitigate Impact of Merowe Dam Outage

The Ministry of Energy and Petroleum on Tuesday announced Tuesday that maintenance and operations teams at the Sudanese Thermal Power Generation Company have successfully restored several thermal power generation units to the national grid in a short period and with high efficiency.
In a press statement, the Ministry indicated that this step comes within the framework of the extensive efforts exerted by workers in the electricity sector to restore stability to the power supply following the fire that caused the Merowe Dam to go offline at the beginning of August.
The Ministry also announced the commissioning and connection of several generating units to the grid with significant loads, after completing the necessary technical procedures, maintenance work, and required control management.
The statement explained that these efforts contribute to strengthening the stability of the electrical grid and mitigating the impact of the Merowe Dam outage.
The Ministry noted that arrangements for the import of cable accessories and complementary connection equipment are en route to the Merowe Dam, adding that preparations are underway around the clock under the supervision of the Minister of Energy and the electricity management team. It is reported that last Saturday, a fire broke out in parts of the Merowe Dam, leading to power outages in four states: River Nile, Northern, Red Sea, and Khartoum.
