A Heartwarming Story of Devotion: A Sudanese Woman in Her Seventies Accompanies Her 90Year-Old Mother Perform Hajj

In a scene that captivated thousands on social media, the tears that flowed from the eyes of Sudanese pilgrim Maryam Al-Nour were not merely tears of joy at performing the Hajj pilgrimage. They were the tears of a daughter over seventy years old who still felt she had fallen short in her duty to her mother, who was over ninety.
Amidst the spiritual atmosphere of Hajj, Maryam appeared holding her mother’s hand with profound tenderness, as if the long years hadn’t passed, as if time had reborn her as a young child leaning on her mother and drawing strength from her. But this time, the scene was different; the seventy-year-old daughter had become the support, accompanying her mother on this once-in-a-lifetime journey, guiding her through every step of the rituals.
With a voice choked with tears and gratitude, Maryam addressed her mother, saying, “I prayed to Allah that I would come with her, and praised be to the Almighty , Mother, may Allah grant you health. I haven’t given you your due.” A few words, yet they carried within them a lifetime of love, gratitude, and devotion.
Although Hajja Maryam spent many years caring for and serving her mother, she still feels that what she offered is nothing compared to the love, generosity, and sacrifices her mother gave her. As she spoke, she seemed to be reliving memories of a lifetime spent in the embrace of that mother who raised her nine sons and daughters, remaining the heart and soul of the family.
Maryam, who came from Khartoum State, spoke with pride about her mother, whose sons and daughters all vied to serve and care for her, emphasizing that she was honored to host and look after her in her home. Her greatest wish, however, was to accompany her on the Hajj pilgrimage, a prayer that Allah has answered this year.
Since their arrival in the Holy Land, Maryam has not left her mother’s side for a single moment. She sits beside her, walks hand in hand, accompanies her everywhere, and even goes to sleep with her. This scene reflects a rare example of filial piety, where compassion and devotion are embodied in the smallest details of daily life. Maryam Al-Nour and her mother performed Hajj as part of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques’ Guests Program for Hajj, Umrah, and Visitation. Their journey transformed into a moving human story that transcended geographical boundaries, reminding us of the ageless meaning of kindness and compassion.
In a time of fast-paced life and shifting priorities, Maryam’s story affirms that a daughter can reach seventy years of age yet still feel indebted to her mother, seeking every opportunity to repay even a small part of her kindness. Between a mother in her nineties and a daughter in her seventies, they walked together in the sacred precincts of Hajj, separated only by holding hands and hearts overflowing with love, gratitude, and unwavering prayers.
