Sudan’s SSMO: Standardized Procedures Boost Gold Exports
Khartoum – Sudanhorizon
The Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization (SSMO) announced a significant leap forward in the speed and efficiency of procedures for testing, analyzing, and stamping gold bullion intended for export.
The SSMO affirmed its commitment to providing technical and regulatory services with the highest levels of efficiency and reliability to protect the national economy, through the use of precise testing and analysis systems that conform to internationally recognized standards.
Engineer Al-Walid Mohamed Osman, Director of the SSMO’s Red Sea Sector, explained that the pace of technical work in the laboratories and analysis units of the Gold Stamping Unit is witnessing a remarkable increase in performance and immediate completion rates, which has directly impacted the growth of exports.
He revealed a significant jump in the volume of gold exports by companies during April and May of this year, with the quantities successfully tested and stamped reaching 4.855 tons.
This exceeds the total exports for the entire first quarter (which recorded 4.195 tons) by a notable difference of approximately 660 kilograms, despite the second quarter of the year not yet being completed. Regarding domestic transactions, the Authority’s technical teams successfully completed the inspection and analysis procedures for 1.557 tons of locally produced gold bullion, in addition to 305 kilograms of gold destined for manufacturing and re-export, and 164 kilograms of locally produced gold jewelry. The expedited procedures also included the export of 44 kilograms of silver by companies, along with 101 kilograms of silver jewelry. This brings the total gold and silver transactions for April and May to over 7.313 tons, compared to 6.499 tons during the first quarter.
The sector director affirmed that this continued growth in export rates is due to the package of facilitations and logistical arrangements adopted by the Authority to ensure smooth and efficient transactions without any delays. He reiterated the Authority’s commitment to strengthening joint coordination and fruitful cooperation with mining companies and relevant entities within the export system.
In this context, it was announced that the Authority has completed all its technical and administrative preparations to continue working at full capacity during the Eid al-Adha holiday, to ensure the continued flow of regulatory services and gold exports with the required speed and efficiency.
