The United Arab Emirates on Thursday revealed, for the first time, the deployment of Egyptian forces within its borders. The announcement came in the wake of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s visit to Abu Dhabi and his meeting with his Emirati counterpart, Mohammed bin Zayed.

The Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported that Sisi and bin Zayed conducted an inspection visit to the Egyptian fighter jets detachment stationed in the UAE to review their readiness and the efforts being made to enhance operational capabilities and prepare for various scenarios.

The agency explained that bin Zayed received Sisi, who is currently visiting the UAE, and they discussed bilateral relations and ways to strengthen cooperation.

The two sides also reviewed regional developments and their implications for regional and international security and stability, and exchanged views on these matters.

According to WAM, Sisi reiterated his “condemnation of the Iranian terrorist attacks targeting civilians and civilian facilities in the UAE,” affirming “Egypt’s solidarity with the UAE in all measures it takes to protect its security and sovereignty and ensure the safety of its territory, citizens and residents.”
