Finance Ministry Commits to Payment for 5,500 Electrical Transformers to Facilitate Return to Khartoum

The Ministry of Finance has reaffirmed its commitment to continuing government spending on reconstruction priorities following the war, announcing its commitment to paying for 5,500 electrical transformers contracted for Khartoum State. Of these, 3,500 have already been received, with the remainder to arrive gradually, as part of efforts to create a conducive environment for people’s return.
During his meeting with the Minister of Energy and Oil, Al-Mutasim Ibrahim, at the Ministry headquarters in Khartoum on Wednesday, Finance Minister Jibril Ibrahim emphasized the continued spending on the electricity sector and meeting its urgent needs, considering it a priority among the essential services required to implement the government’s directives for citizens to return to their homes damaged by the war.
For his part, the Minister of Energy and Oil briefed the meeting on the efforts being made to address the damage sustained by on infrastructure, stressing the importance of improving the working conditions of employees and attracting national talent to ensure the stability of services. The meeting, which included the Director General of the Sudan Electricity Holding Company and the Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance, also discussed generation and network maintenance issues, emphasizing the importance of integrated joint efforts.
It is worth noting that Sudan lost approximately 70% of its electricity production capacity due to the war, resulting from the widespread destruction of the country’s energy infrastructure.
