Sudanese Center for Human Rights Condemns Israel’s Decision to Execute Palestinian Prisoners
Cairo – Sudanhorizon
The Sudanese Center for Human Rights and Freedom of the Press condemned what it described as “Israel’s exploitation of the state of regional chaos—which it has contributed to creating and fueling—to pass a law authorizing the execution of Palestinian prisoners.” The center considered this to be “legislation of a punitive and political nature that violates the principles of international humanitarian law, particularly the Geneva Conventions, which emphasize the protection of prisoners and prohibit subjecting them to retaliatory measures or exceptional trials lacking due process guarantees.”
The center also condemned the continued closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque throughout the holy month of Ramadan, describing it as “one of the most serious violations of the religious rights guaranteed to the Palestinian people, particularly the right to access places of worship and to participate in religious rituals with full freedom.”
In a statement issued today (Tuesday), signed by Omayya Youssef Hassan Abu Fidaya, Director General of the center, and obtained by Sudanhorizon, the center said that this measure constitutes “a clear violation of relevant international conventions, foremost among them the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, as well as the general principles established by the United Nations system regarding the protection of religious rights and non-discrimination based on identity or national or religious affiliation. This calls for a more effective and responsible Arab and Islamic stance towards these repeated violations.”
In conclusion, the center affirmed that “such legislation undermines the prospects for peace and exacerbates the climate of tension and violence in the region.”
