The Economic Development Sector of the Council of Ministers discussed the outcomes and recommendations of the Hope Forum on Mining Issues (the National Document on Mining Issues), which aims to advance the mining sector and maximize its economic returns.

The meeting was held on Wednesday under the auspices of the Customs Forces. It was chaired by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Dr. Awad Salam.

The document stressed the need for aligning state legislation and regulations with federal policies and laws governing the mining sector, as well as the importance of strengthening coordination and integration between the Ministry of Minerals and the regional and state governments to achieve sound and sustainable management of mineral resources.

The recommendations also included supporting the comprehensive geological survey project currently being implemented in various regions and states, as it is the cornerstone for exploring the country’s promising mineral potential.

The recommendations further included working to reduce unregulated mining activity, providing a safe and sustainable working environment, and the need for the state to commit to developing a clear and specific strategy that ensures the participation of local communities and prioritizes corporate social responsibility projects.

The attendees appreciated the great role played by the Customs Forces in supporting and protecting the economy, and the committee members offered their condolences for the martyrs of duty among the Customs Forces who were recently martyred while performing their national duty in combating smuggling.
