The Higher Council for the Environment and Urban and Rural Development in Khartoum State has launched a community initiative under the slogan “Ramadan’s Bounty: An Environmental Treasure, Together for a Sustainable Green Environment,” under the supervision of the Secretary-General of the Higher Council for the Environment, Ghada Al-Awad.
The initiative aims to promote a culture of sustainability and environmental responsibility, transforming simple Ramadan traditions into a lasting environmental impact that extends beyond the holy month.
The Director of the General Administration of Natural Resources at the Council, Engineer Mohamed Al-Amin, stated in a press release Saturday that the initiative aims to transform leftover fruit from Ramadan juices into a life-giving opportunity by collecting fruit seeds (such as mango, guava, lemon, etc.) and preparing them for later planting. This supports afforestation programs and increases green spaces in urban and rural areas.
He added: “Ramadan’s bounty is not just for consumption, but also for sustainability.” He announced that the location for participation and seed collection is the Higher Council for the Environment building in the Al-Taif area, Al-Salam Street, Khartoum. The council appealed to citizens to participate in the initiative by keeping the seeds instead of disposing of them, cleaning them well with water, drying them in a shaded and well-ventilated place, and then handing them over to the council headquarters during the month of Ramadan.
