Sudan, Saudi Arabia and UNHCR Sign Memorandum on Support of Water Sector

Sudan, Saudi Arabia and the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) have signed a memorandum of understanding to support water services in areas affected by the war in the Sudan.
On behalf of the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Ambassador Hassan Hamid Hassan, Sudan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, signed a memorandum of understanding with the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for a $10 million grant to support water projects in war-affected communities in Sudan.
Dr. Sultan bin Abdulrahman Al-Murshid, CEO of the Saudi Fund for Development, signed on behalf of the Saudi side, while Barham Salih signed on behalf of UNHCR, the implementing agency for the project, at the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Geneva.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the memorandum aims to rehabilitate and expand water networks in several war-affected areas, including improving water supply in Khartoum, upgrading solar-powered water treatment facilities, and enhancing technical capabilities.
This will contribute to improving access to clean water and reducing health risks.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation voiced Sudan’s appreciation to Saudi Arabia for its continued support for stabilization and reconstruction efforts.
