The Governance and Administration Sector of the Council of Ministers, in its meeting, Monday, chaired by Minister of Interior, Lieutenant General Babiker Samra Mustafa, approved the National Strategy for Controlling Small Arms and Light Weapons for the period 2027-2031.

The strategy aims to strengthen the foundations of security, peace, and stability by coordinating efforts among all relevant parties to combat the illicit proliferation of small arms and light weapons through comprehensive and integrated guidelines.

It also aims to empower law enforcement agencies, activate legislation that limits the spread of illicit weapons, and establish controls to manage the remnants of military conflicts and trace weapons.

The sector also approved a memorandum of understanding between Sudan and Liberia for the mutual exemption of visa requirements for holders of diplomatic, special, and official passports.

The sector called for upgrading diplomatic representation between Sudan and Liberia to serve the common interests of both countries.

It commended the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for its commendable efforts and its continuous pursuit of strengthening Sudan’s foreign relations under the current circumstances, and called for enhanced diplomatic cooperation with African and regional countries.

The sector also approved the final statement of the consultative coordination meeting of regional and state government secretaries, which aims to strengthen coordination and consultation between the central government and the regions and states, discuss common issues related to state governance, and exchange expertise.

The meeting aims to unify policies related to decentralized governance and visions regarding current priorities, contributing to administrative stability, improved performance efficiency, and the effective implementation of state public policies.
