Khartoum Welcomes Return of Federal Government

The Higher Emergency and Crisis Management Committee of Khartoum State, during its regular meeting held today (Wednesday) under the chairmanship of the Governor of Khartoum State, Professor Ahmed Othman Hamza, welcomed the return of the federal government to the capital, Khartoum, and the resumption of its duties from within its headquarters, led by Prime Minister Dr. Kamel Idris.
The meeting affirmed that this step represents an important positive indicator reflecting a noticeable improvement in security and service conditions in the state, and reinforces efforts to restore stability and enable state institutions to resume their natural role in serving citizens from within the capital.
The Governor of Khartoum State directed localities to intensify current efforts in removing debris and car wrecks and addressing visual distortions, especially in areas witnessing high accumulations of waste resulting from maintenance and rehabilitation works in markets, commercial sites, public facilities, and residential neighborhoods. He emphasized the importance of activating the role of administrative units and organized fieldwork to restore the civilized appearance of the capital.
The meeting reviewed the significant efforts exerted by the Khartoum State Water Corporation in addressing pipeline breaks and rapid maintenance interventions, contributing to reducing water loss and ensuring service continuity. Based on a report presented by the Corporation’s Director, Engineer Mohamed Awad, the meeting was reassured of the stability of water supply and the operation of all water sources in the state.
The Director of the Corporation pointed to the arrival of sufficient quantities of work supplies and maintenance tools that will help accelerate responses to breakdowns. He also explained that the problem of weak electrical current at Al-Shagara Station had been resolved in coordination with electricity companies, revealing that the station is currently operating at full capacity to provide drinking water to neighborhoods in Khartoum Locality. He added that the reintegration of Jebel Aulia Station will significantly contribute to achieving and stabilizing water supply in Jebel Aulia Locality.
In this context, the meeting listened to a detailed report from the Director General of the State Ministry of Education, Dr. Guraib Allah Mohamed Ahmed, who explained that approximately 14,000 male and female students from displaced families from West Kordofan and East Darfur States have been absorbed into schools in Karari and Omdurman localities, as part of the state’s efforts to guarantee the right to education for children affected by the war.
The Director General noted that ongoing measures are being taken to regularize the status of students in the Salha and Jadain areas south of Omdurman Locality. He explained that a joint committee comprising education officials from the concerned states and the Ministry of Education is working to find appropriate solutions to complete official documents and academic certificates for final-year students, enabling them to sit for examinations. He also revealed the absorption of more than 400 male and female teachers from among the displaced to work in state schools, supporting the educational process and addressing staff shortages.
On the other hand, the meeting was reassured regarding ongoing efforts to regulate markets and vending sites, remove waste and informal activities, and organize the sale of food and hot beverages, in a manner that contributes to improving the general environment, enhancing public health, and creating conditions conducive to the return of economic and service activities.
The committee stressed the importance of continued coordination among its components and relevant entities, and of sustaining fieldwork efforts to ensure the continuity of services.
