The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Relocates to Provisional Headquarters in Khartoum Shortly
Sudanhorizon-Mariam Abashar -Exclusive
A reliable diplomatic source has confirmed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation will move to the national capital, Khartoum, within the next few days.
The source told Sudanhorizon news website that the ministry will relocate to a new provisional headquarters in the suburb of Riyadh located east of Khartoum, the capital, and that some of the diplomatic and administrative cadres from the ministry have already left for Khartoum to make the necessary arrangements.
The sources indicated that the ministry will complete the move with all its employees, including the minister, within the next two weeks while at the same time keeping a coordination office in the administrative capital of Port Sudan and maintain a limited number of diplomatic and administrative cadres there for the purpose of coordinating diplomatic work with embassies and regional and international organizations currently resident in Port Sudan until they also move to Khartoum.
In a related context, the source said that work in the ministry head-office is progressing well despite the challenges, and that there is determination and strong will to continue work in a comprehensive and complete manner, despite the lack of cadres at the level of the head-office of the ministry.
It is likely that the current Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Muawiyah Othman Khaled, will continue in his position, while the transfers of ambassadors that were mentioned recently are still in their initial stages, in contrast to what was reported about the Sudanese embassy in Nigeria, in which the head of the Sovereign Council bid farewell to its ambassador accredited to Abuja, Mohamed Abdel-Al, two days ago.
