5,000 People Displaced to Damazin Following Attack on Geissan

Khartoum – Sudanhorizon

The Sudan Doctors Network said on Tuesday that attacks by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia on the Geissan area in the Blue Nile Region this week had forced more than 5,000 displaced people to flee to Damazin amid critical humanitarian conditions.

In a statement, the network said the displaced people are facing severe shortages of food, medicine, and shelter materials, threatening their lives and worsening their suffering, particularly among children, women, and the elderly.

It warned that the humanitarian and health situation facing the displaced could deteriorate further amid the heavy rains currently affecting the region. The rains could create additional health and environmental risks and contribute to the spread of diseases, while available resources and response capacities remain limited in the face of growing needs.

The network appealed to UN, humanitarian, and local organizations, as well as the relevant authorities, to take urgent action to provide food, drinking water, medicines, medical supplies, and shelter materials. It also called for healthcare and protection to be provided to the displaced and for measures to prevent further deterioration of the situation.

The network stressed the need to ensure that humanitarian assistance reaches those affected without obstruction and as quickly as possible.
