World Health Organization Reaffirms Support for Sudan’s Health System

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Mohi El-Din Salem, met on Thursday in Geneva with World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, accompanied by several of the organization’s senior officials.
During the meeting, the minister reviewed the health and humanitarian situation in Sudan, highlighting the impact of attacks on hospitals and healthcare facilities during the conflict and the extensive damage sustained by the country’s health system.
He also expressed the Sudanese government’s appreciation for the support provided by the World Health Organization, describing it as a key partner in addressing the consequences of the crisis.

The discussions focused on Sudan’s urgent and priority needs to support ongoing national efforts to rehabilitate healthcare facilities and strengthen the capacity of the health sector to respond to growing demand as increasing numbers of Sudanese voluntarily return to the country.
For his part, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus expressed his solidarity with Sudan and its people during the ongoing crisis and reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to its partnership with the Sudanese government. He pledged that the WHO would continue providing all possible support to Sudan’s health system and stressed the importance of maintaining close coordination through the organization’s country office in Sudan and its regional office in Cairo.
