West Kordofan Governor to Sudanhorizon: Militia Splits Signal Beginning of the End, Residents Have the Right to Sue Al-Safana

Cairo – Sudanhorizon – Sabah Moussa

The Governor of West Kordofan, retired Major General and legal expert Ahmed Adam Jaid, said that the defection of Ali Rizqallah, known as “Al-Safana,” from the Rapid Support Forces militia is a continuation of the earlier split led by Al-Nour Al-Qubba, stressing that it represents the beginning of the end for the rebel militia.

In an exclusive statement to Sudanhorizon, Jaid added that authorities had also received one of the leaders of the Misseriya tribe in Khartoum on Saturday after his arrival from Uganda, saying he carried “many significant revelations.”

He noted that internal circles within the militia are now discussing possible future defections due to growing fears of what he described as an approaching “sweeping crackdown and cleansing operation.”

Jaid stated that the militia’s mandate “has never and will never convince even a shepherd in the wilderness,” stressing the need to listen to reason.

He said the war had destroyed the lives of young people who had been misled and who could have contributed to rebuilding the country, but were instead exploited and turned into tools for destruction, systematic sabotage of infrastructure, fragmentation of the social fabric, and large-scale smuggling of the nation’s resources, alongside what he described as blatant foreign interference and violations of state sovereignty witnessed by the world.

The governor further stated that merchants in the city of An-Nuhud — and all residents of the city — have the right to file lawsuits against Al-Safana under what he described as “private rights” claims that are not covered by any general amnesty.

He accused Al-Safana of leading militia forces during the takeover of An-Nuhud and nearby villages, resulting in the displacement and impoverishment of residents through widespread looting and theft.

Jaid explained that the humanitarian situation in West Kordofan, despite efforts by the Federal Humanitarian Aid Commission, still requires urgent additional interventions, particularly as displaced people continue to flee from areas under RSF control.

He said that after the militia had “stripped” An-Nuhud of its resources, it moved into rural areas that residents believed were safe, but were later targeted as part of what he called a broader policy of impoverishment.

According to Jaid, large numbers of civilians have fled toward areas controlled by the Sudanese Armed Forces in search of security and stability.

The governor concluded by appealing to regional and international organizations to provide greater humanitarian assistance to residents of the state, especially with the approaching rainy season, emphasizing the urgent need to support displaced and conflict-affected communities across West Kordofan.
