Sudan-Azerbaijan Investment Cooperation Given A Boost

The Azerbaijani capital, Baku, on Friday hosted the start of the joint technical committee meetings between Sudan and Azerbaijan, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and advancing prospects for economic, trade, and investment cooperation, based on understandings between the leaderships of the two countries.
The Sudanese delegation was headed by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, Magdi Mohamed Abdel Latif, with participation from representatives of economic institutions. The Azerbaijani side was led by the Deputy Minister of Economy, Anar Aliyev. Both sides discussed ways to develop technical and economic cooperation.
The Sudanese side presented a portfolio of projects covering sectors such as energy, natural gas, petrochemicals, thermal and hydropower generation, solar energy, as well as mining and road infrastructure.
The committee began its work with a meeting with the Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, during which ways to support bilateral relations were discussed. Both sides affirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation in a manner that serves mutual interests and contributes to stability and development.

The Sudanese delegation reviewed developments in the country, including field progress by the armed forces, government efforts to restore stability, and the Sudanese peace initiative presented to the United Nations Security Council as a national framework for addressing the crisis.
The visit also included a field tour of the Alat Free Economic Zone in Baku, where the delegation reviewed its experience in developing infrastructure and logistics services, expressing interest in benefiting from it to support reconstruction and stimulate growth.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of continuing coordination and intensifying mutual visits. This momentum comes amid preparations to sign six new agreements in economic, investment, and cultural fields.
These agreements are expected to strengthen the legal framework for cooperation, facilitate investment flows and trade exchange, and support education, culture, and knowledge exchange between the two countries.
