US Confirms Two Soldiers Killed, One Missing in Iran Strikes on Jordan Base
Sudanhorizon – Agencies
US President Donald Trump described the deaths of two American soldiers in Jordan, Saturday, as “very sad.” He told News Nation, “We regret what happened. It was in service to our country.”
The US military announced on Saturday the deaths of two of its soldiers and a third missing, marking the first casualties among US forces in the conflict with Iran since last March.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a social media post: “On July 17, two US service members were killed in Jordan while CENTCOM and partner forces were responding to Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks. A third service member is missing.”
CENTCOM reported that four other US service members were evacuated to hospitals in Jordan for treatment and were later released. Others sustained minor injuries and returned to duty.
The United States carried out a seventh night of strikes (from Friday night until Saturday), targeting coastal areas near the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, as well as inland transportation infrastructure, according to Iranian state media.
The US attacks damaged a desalination plant in the south of the country, cutting off water to 20 villages, according to the deputy governor of Hormozgan province. Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia announced they had activated their alert systems to counter Iranian attacks, and Kuwait reported that another desalination plant had been targeted by Iranian shelling.
