Technical Meetings of the Sudan-Iran Political Consultation Committee to Begin Today

Sudanhorizon – Maryam Abshir – Exclusive
The technical meetings of the Sudan-Iran Political Consultation Committee between the foreign ministries of both countries are set to begin today (Sunday) in Tehran, ahead of the main meeting on Monday. Foreign Minister Dr Ali Youssef will lead the Sudanese delegation, while Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi will head the Iranian delegation.
In an exclusive statement to “Sudanhorizon,” Sudanese Ambassador to Iran Abdul Aziz Hassan Saleh described the meeting as significant. He emphasised that this consultation committee is important because it is the first of its kind since the resumption of diplomatic relations and the reopening of embassies in Tehran and Port Sudan following an eight-year hiatus.
Ambassador Abdul Aziz highlighted the meetings’ particular significance given the current situations in Sudan and Iran and the rapidly evolving developments in the Middle East and globally. He noted that the committee is a valuable opportunity for further consultation and coordination on bilateral, regional, and international issues.
The two foreign ministers are expected to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a formal framework for the Political Consultation Committee, regulating the frequency of its meetings, its leadership structure, and the agenda of future discussions.
