Sudan’s Ambassador to Berlin Holds Meetings with German,UN Humanitarian Organizations

Sudan’s Ambassador to Germany, Ilham Ibrahim Mohamed Ahmed, recently participated in a joint meeting of UN agencies and programs based in Bonn, as part of a series of meetings with diplomatic missions accredited to Germany.
The high-level diplomatic meeting was addressed by the UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, as well as by a representative of the Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, according to a report by the Sudan News Agency.
On the sidelines of the joint meeting, the Ambassador held bilateral meetings with several of these agencies, discussing a number of issues of common interest, focusing on the recovery phase, supporting and facilitating voluntary return programs for internally displaced Sudanese and refugees, and supporting host communities, as well as rehabilitating the health, education, electricity, and water sectors.
The meetings included representatives from the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) program, the UN Women office in Bonn, the UNESCO International Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ICTEVET), the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), and the Global Alliance of Water Operators Partnerships (GAWP). Discussions focused on strengthening the capacity of Sudanese volunteers and attracting more of them to support reconstruction efforts, reactivating vocational training centers, and supporting the water and sanitation sector in Sudan.
Separately, the Ambassador met with the Director of the Sahel, Horn of Africa, and Eastern Europe Department at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in Bonn. The meeting addressed the programs implemented by the Ministry in Sudan through UN agencies and programs, and explored ways to enhance cooperation between Sudan and Germany in reconstruction efforts.
Ambassador Ilham also met with humanitarian organizations operating in Sudan and with prominent German business leaders and companies. Discussions centered on investment opportunities and strengthening cooperation, particularly in the areas of solar energy and humanitarian aid. These entities affirmed their readiness to expand their activities and projects in Sudan.
