Nabil Adeeb Denies Being Selected to Head Investigation Committee into North Wadi Incident
Khartoum – Mariam Abshir
Lawyer Nabil Adeeb described the incident involving miners in the North Wadi area as a “mistake,” stressing that it should not undermine the fraternal relations between Sudan and Egypt.
Adeeb denied reports circulated on Monday that he had been selected to head the investigation committee announced by the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council following the attack on miners in North Wadi. The incident left a large number of people dead and injured and sparked widespread public outrage.
Speaking to Sudan Horizon on Tuesday, Adeeb said the announced fact-finding and investigation committee should establish the facts and circumstances firsthand at the scene, in coordination with the relevant Egyptian authorities.
He also criticized incidents involving Egyptian civilians in Khartoum, describing relations between the two countries as historic and longstanding. “This cannot be used as a justification for striking anyone who bears no responsibility,” he added.
Adeeb said the relevant authorities in both countries were capable of uncovering the facts and holding those responsible accountable. He added that he saw no need to escalate the matter to the United Nations or the UN Security Council, stressing that the two countries could resolve the issue and establish the facts without external intervention.
