Sudan: No Justification for Continuing World Bank Projects Through Third Parties
Khartoum – Sudanhorizon
The State Minister at the Ministry of Finance, Advisor Mohammed Nour Abdeldaim, discussed the pivotal role played by the African Group One (AG1) at the World Bank in directing financing and development advice to support countries.
During his meeting on Monday with the World Bank’s Executive Director representing the African Group One (AG1), held on the sidelines of the Spring Meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund in Washington, he explained that Sudan now qualifies under the policy framework for countries affected by war and conflict and deserves direct support. He stressed that the banking system has resumed functioning effectively, and there is no justification for continuing to implement projects through third parties, as this negatively impacts the economic situation.
The minister emphasized the need to restore direct engagement and convert projects currently implemented through third parties into direct support for Sudan, noting that such arrangements have adverse effects on the state and weaken the efficiency of implementation and monitoring.
He also provided a briefing during the meeting on Sudan’s economic and financial situation, as well as recent developments and the repercussions of the Iran conflict.
