Removal of More Than 160 Informal and Damaged Sites in Souq Al-Shaabi, Khartoum
Khartoum – Sudanhorizon
Khartoum locality carried out a major campaign to remove encroachments in Souq Al-Shaabi in Khartoum, targeting more than 160 informal commercial sites that had been destroyed or burned.
This step comes as part of the locality’s plan to reorganize markets, remove violations and visual distortions, and reopen roads, in implementation of directives from the Higher Committee tasked with preparing a suitable environment for the return of citizens to the capital.
The locality’s Executive Director, Abdel Moneim Al-Bashir, affirmed during his inspection of the campaign today—accompanied by the head of the committee for war-affected markets in the locality, Kamal Awad Al-Karim Mustafa—that these efforts are proceeding in parallel with the committee’s work, which has conducted field assessments of the extent of damage in markets destroyed and burned by the militia.
Al-Bashir explained that the committee’s report emphasized the necessity of removing informal sites and completely destroyed structures in preparation for reorganizing regulated markets and reopening internal roads.
The Executive Director also revealed that removal campaigns will continue to include several informal sites in Souq Al-Ashara, Market (4) in Al-Barari (Al-Imtidad neighborhood), and Jackson Station.
He stressed that only officially approved commercial sites will be retained, as part of efforts to prepare the environment for the return of residents, maintain security, and enforce the authority of the state.
It is worth noting that the campaign was carried out with active participation from the Land Protection and Violations Removal Unit, the Violations and Regulation Department of the locality, in addition to the Al-Imtidad administrative unit and Al-Nuzha Police Department.
For its part, the Souq Al-Shaabi Traders Committee called on all traders and owners to return and resume their commercial activities, following the successful reorganization of the market and the removal of all obstacles that had been hindering operations.
