National Commission for Human Rights Condemns Militia Violations Against Civilians in West Kordofan

The National Commission for Human Rights in Sudan has condemned the grave violations committed by the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) against civilians in West Kordofan State, particularly in the city of Al-Nahud.
In a statement reviewed by the Sudanhorizon news website, the Commission declared: “The National Commission for Human Rights strongly condemns and denounces the gross violations carried out by the rebel Rapid Support Forces against civilians in the city of Al-Nahud, West Kordofan State.”
According to the statement, the RSF’s attacks have resulted in the deaths of approximately 300 civilians, including 15 women and 21 children—an act the Commission described as a new massacre. The rebel forces also reportedly looted medical supplies, markets, and Al-Nahud Hospital.
The Commission further condemned the systematic looting of public facilities, including Al-Nahud Teaching Hospital—the only hospital providing medical services in the region. The theft of medical supplies and the destruction of several private pharmacies have severely disrupted healthcare, endangering thousands of patients and injured individuals.
The statement noted that the figures are preliminary and may rise, as the city remains under siege by RSF forces. The militia is reportedly preventing civilians from fleeing and obstructing the release of detainees.
The Commission emphasized that restricting civilians from leaving conflict zones constitutes a serious violation of human rights and international humanitarian law. Such actions amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity.
This blockade is expected to lead to shortages in food and medical care, heightening the risk of disease and worsening the humanitarian crisis. It also contributes to fear, instability, and continued threats to civilian lives.
