Minnawi Dsiappointed Over International Community’s Failure to Protect Civilians in Darfur

The Governor of Darfur, Minni Arko Minawi, expressed his despair over the international community’s response to his repeated calls for the protection of civilians in Darfur.

On Sunday , Minawi sent a tweet via his X account to the “heroic youth of Darfur,” saying: “I have been appealing to the world and directing my appeals to the United Nations and humanitarian organizations. I will stop appealing to them after what has happened.

Now I appeal to you. It is time to act immediately to lift the siege on El Fasher. Let us muster our strength and will and show the world that we have the ability to change our reality. Let us work together to liberate our homeland, and let us remember all those we have lost, for they live in our hearts.”

He added, “Let us make the land drenched in blood a homeland of hope and peace… A thousand greetings and appreciation to our steadfast, struggling youth in the Zamzam, Abu Shouk, and Fasher camps, for their steadfastness and bravery.”

The UN Security Council issued a resolution in June of last year, with 14 members voting in favour and one abstaining, demanding that the rebel Rapid Support Forces militia lift the siege of El Fasher and cease its shelling. Although the militia ignored the resolution and disregarded it, the Council failed to exert any pressure to compel the militia to comply with its decision.
