Ministerial Meeting Calls for Increased Efforts to Ensure Success of Summer Agricultural Season

Prime Minister Kamil Idris chaired an expanded meeting in Khartoum on Thursday attended by Finance Minister Dr. Jibril Ibrahim, Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Ismat Qurashi, Central Bank of Sudan Governor Amna Mirghani, Special Representative of the Prime Minister Dr. Al-Hussein Al-Khalifa Al-Siddiq Al-Hafyan, and Director General of the Agricultural Bank of Sudan Salah Mohamed Abdelrahim.

The Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation said in a press statement that the meeting reviewed the financing situation for the summer agricultural season, which has seen financing of nearly 700 billion Sudanese pounds in its first phase.

He said the meeting endorsed the continuation of financing for the summer agricultural season in line with the prime minister’s directives to support productive sectors through full coordination between monetary and fiscal policies.

The Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation said the meeting directed support and financing for the second phase of the summer agricultural season and called for close coordination between the Central Bank of Sudan and the Agricultural Bank of Sudan regarding the financing portfolio for the summer season.

Ismat Qurashi noted that the prime minister commended the efforts of the Agricultural Bank of Sudan and affirmed his support for the bank’s financing vision and policy, directing that efforts be doubled to ensure the success of the summer agricultural season.

He also said the Agricultural Bank of Sudan is the institution best positioned to provide financing in Sudan, adding that this year’s summer agricultural season is expected to be significantly different and highly satisfactory for farmers.
