Prominent Tribal Chief Offers Peace Initiative for Darfur
Khartoum – Sudanhorizon
The Sudanese Minister of Justice, Abdullah Darf, announced on Thursday the completion of the process of identifying legal avenues for prosecuting the UAE and the militia before international courts and US tribunals. He affirmed that the Ministry possesses sufficient evidence, exceeding the reasonable doubt required to prosecute them for crimes committed against the Sudanese people.
The Minister made the announcement during his visit on Thursday to an exhibition of weapons seized from the Rapid Support Forces militia in their aggression against the Sudanese people.
The Minister heads the High Committee for Establishing and Following Up on International Lawsuits Against the Militia, its Supporters, and the States Supporting It.
According to the Ministry of Justice’s media office, Darf explained that the visit was part of the work of the subcommittee tasked with collecting evidence and documenting the seized modern weapons, including suicide and strategic drones, and various other weapons found in the hands of this rebel militia. He indicated that the recorded data showed that the ultimate user of these weapons was the Abu Dhabi regime.
The minister stated that all the seized weapons were modern, with manufacturing dates recorded as June 2023, 2024, and 2025. According to the recorded data, the end user was the Abu Dhabi regime, in clear violation of international law and international agreements prohibiting arms exports to third parties.
The legal framework, prepared with the participation of experts from the Ministry of Justice and other entities, established the legal basis and defined the crimes as: war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide, and crimes related to supplying militias with weapons, mercenaries, and training, in accordance with international agreements that criminalize such acts.
The minister said: “Our message to the world, the Security Council, and all people of conscience is that the primary reason for the militias’ continued crimes and violations against the Sudanese people is the ongoing flow of these weapons from the Abu Dhabi regime. In this context, we appreciate the European Union’s statement, which clearly identified the Abu Dhabi regime as an integral part of the crimes committed and being committed in Darfur and Kordofan.”
He added that “We will continue to prosecute this terrorist militia and the Abu Dhabi regime before international courts for the crimes against humanity, war crimes, and genocide they committed against unarmed civilians, with the direct support and on-the-ground participation of the Abu Dhabi regime, based on conclusive evidence witnessed by the entire world.”
The minister explained that there are various legal avenues for these cases, including the International Criminal Court, the International Court of Justice, and the prosecution of the Abu Dhabi regime in US courts and courts in other countries whose legal systems allow for the prosecution of anyone who commits a crime classified as a war crime or a crime against humanity.
