Minister of Finance Briefs U N O P S Assistant Secretary-General on Sudan’s Priorities

The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr. Jibril Ibrahim, has briefed the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations Programme for Project Services (U N O P S), on the country’s priorities for the next stage, represented in creating an environment for the return of citizens, infrastructure projects and basic services.
During his meeting with Assistant Secretary-General George da Silva at the Ministries offices, on Tuesday, with the participation of the Undersecretary of Planning and the Director General of Foreign Finance, the minister stressed the government’s interest in demining projects and sterilization of war-affected cities to create a suitable environment to receive citizens returning to their home areas.
He also indicated that the country requires paying attention to infrastructure projects such as roads, solar energy and basic service projects in the sectors of health, drinking water, education and support for the agricultural sector.
For his part, the UN official has underlined that this was his first visit to Sudan and that it is aimed to identify the needs and priorities of the country in light of the repercussions of the war.
He promised to highlight this to the competent United Nations organizations and development partners.
The two sides agreed to continue consultation for further coordination and engagement of interested parties.
