Fourth African School Football Championship Kicks Off in Northern State

The Governor of Northern State, Lieutenant General Abdelrahman Abdel Hamid, along with members of the state government and a number of officials, attended the opening of the Fourth African School Football Championship 2026 at Dongola Stadium on Tuesday morning.
The tournament serves as the qualifying stage for the finals to be held in Rwanda, with the Northern Sector comprising Northern State, Khartoum State, and River Nile State.
The opening match brought together Northern State and Khartoum State, with Northern State securing a 1–0 victory.
According to the Sudan News Agency (SUNA), the Director General of the Ministry of Education in Northern State, Tijani Ibrahim, expressed his gratitude to the state government and the people of Northern State for hosting the tournament. He also praised the efforts of the Higher Council for Youth and Sports, the Dongola Local Football Association, the General Administration of School Activities at the Ministry of Education, and all parties that contributed to organizing the fourth edition of the African School Championship and ensuring its success in achieving its educational objectives.
He congratulated the state team on winning its opening match against Khartoum.
In the same context, Yasser Omar, representative of the Federal Ministry of Education and head of the Northern Sector delegation, thanked the Northern State government and the tournament organizers for their excellent preparations and arrangements for the national student event.
He explained that the African School Championship aims to support and establish African school sports programs as a foundation for future school competitions, while promoting educational, cultural, and sporting values among primary and middle school students.
He added that Sudan has consistently participated in African and Arab school sports competitions.
Meanwhile, Abdel Moneim Abdel Hamid, Director of the General Administration of School Activities in Northern State, stated that Sudan’s states had been divided into four sectors: Khartoum, Sennar, Gedaref, and Northern. He noted that the tournament, whose competitions will conclude on the 22nd of this month in Rwanda, seeks to promote the values of national unity, communication, and tolerance among students.
