On Monday, the seventh division of the Rahad Agricultural Project launched the cultivation of more than 2,000 feddans of groundnuts.

Field inspections were carried out by the Director General of the Rahad Agricultural Authority, Dr. Hani Ahmed, the Agricultural Director Hassan Yousif Al-Turaifi, and other officials, who reviewed germination processes and the stages of clearing weeds from the crop.

The Director of the seventh division confirmed that 7,000 feddans have been allocated for groundnut cultivation, noting that more than 2,000 feddans have already been planted, with agricultural cleaning operations now underway for the cultivated areas.

For his part, the Director General of the Rahad Agricultural Authority, Dr. Hani, stated that groundnuts are considered a strategic cash crop for both the authority and the national economy, pointing out that the seventh division consistently achieves high productivity of up to 50 sacks per feddan.

He also praised the farmers of the division for confronting the challenges of displacement in order to ensure food security.

In a related context, the Director General and his accompanying delegation held a meeting with the agricultural administration and farmer leaders in the seventh division to discuss the problems and challenges facing operations in the division.

The head of the Farmers’ Organization in Rahad, Abdel Azim Wad Al-Goum, emphasized the strong emotional attachment of farmers to their land, which places a responsibility on the state and the Ministries of Agriculture and Irrigation to resolve all obstacles facing them.

Wad Al-Goum also announced their intention to communicate with the federal government to advance the Rahad Project’s files with relevant authorities, in order to ensure the success of the current agricultural season and avoid its failure, as occurred in the previous three seasons due to attacks by the Rapid Support Forces militia, which targeted Al-Fao locality and occupied parts of its southern areas.
