Cabinet Discusses Social Peace, Reconstruction, and People Return to Khartoum

Prime Minister Kamil Idris chaired the Cabinet’s regular meeting on Monday in Khartoum. The meeting focused on a range of pressing national issues, most notably efforts to mend the social fabric, rebuild and rehabilitate the capital, and ensure the safe return of people to liberated areas.
Minister of Culture, Information, and Tourism, Khalid Al-Aisir, explained in a press statement that the Cabinet listened to a debriefing from the Chairman of the Supreme Council for Social Peace, Al-Nur Al-Sheikh Al-Nur, which addressed community reconciliation and ongoing efforts to address the distortions caused by the war.
The Cabinet emphasized the need to counter attempts to fragment the social fabric and to support social peace as a cornerstone of the government’s plans. It also stressed the importance of providing essential services to citizens in conflict zones and areas liberated from rebel militia control.
In the same context, the Cabinet praised the Charter of Reconciliation and Peaceful Coexistence between the various communities of Sinnar State, which was signed on Sunday in Khartoum. The Cabinet commended the pivotal role of the Supreme Council for Social Peace in addressing the effects of war and extended its appreciation to community leaders, native administrators, and Sufi orders who contributed to the success of this reconciliation.
On the diplomatic front, the Cabinet heard a briefing from the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Mohi El-Din Salem, regarding his recent visits to several countries, most recently Switzerland. During his visit, he outlined Sudan’s vision on issues related to security, stability, and humanitarian aid, as well as the efforts being made to achieve lasting peace in the country.
The meeting also discussed the report of the High Committee for Creating a Suitable Environment for the Return of People to Khartoum State, presented by the Governor of the State, Ahmed Osman Hamza. The report reviewed the work of the subcommittees, the completed projects, and the tangible progress being made in the capital across various service sectors.
During the discussions, the Cabinet expressed its satisfaction with the arrangements concerning the military presence in Khartoum and the measures aimed at maintaining security and consolidating stability. The Council addressed the vital role of imams in promoting the values of coexistence, combating hate speech, and fostering social solidarity, affirming that the government is moving forward in bridging divides and dismantling the root causes of conflict.
The Council warned against campaigns led by external entities to undermine national unity, emphasizing the need for concerted official and popular efforts to confront these threats and multifaceted external targeting.
Regarding infrastructure and services, the Cabinet reviewed a report from the Director General of Sudan Airports Company, Lieutenant General Sir Al-Khatim Babiker Al-Tayeb, on the rehabilitation and development of airports, particularly Khartoum International Airport, which is experiencing a significant increase in capacity and the movement of voluntary returnees.
The Council concluded its meeting by stressing the need to expand the electricity supply in the capital. The Minister of Energy, Al-Mu’tasim Ibrahim, assured citizens that the coming period would witness widespread and stable electricity supply throughout Khartoum State.
