Afrikan Liberation Movement Condemns Reacts to Trump’s Executive Order Against South Africa

Sudanhorizon – Ramadan Ahmed

The Afrikan Liberation Movement (ALM) has issued a strong statement in response to the recent Executive Order by US President Donald Trump against South Africa, describing it as a blatant act of white supremacy and Western imperialism.

The statement also condemns the role of AfriForum, a South African organisation, in aligning with Trump’s agenda, calling it a betrayal of the Black liberation struggle.

The Executive Order, issued on 7 February 2025, targets South Africa following its decision to lodge a case of genocide against Israel at the International Criminal Court (ICJ). The ALM argues that this move by the Trump administration is part of a broader strategy to maintain US global hegemony, particularly in the face of growing Russian and Chinese influence on the international stage.

“The Executive Order is not about facts or law,” the ALM stated. “It is about protecting white power and colonial privilege wherever they are threatened, including in South Africa.”
The ALM highlighted that the US’s unwavering support for Israel, coupled with its opposition to South Africa’s stance on Palestine, underscores the interconnectedness of global struggles against imperialism and white supremacy. The statement also pointed to the Alliance of Sahel States (AES)—comprising Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso—as a significant challenge to US and French imperialist interests in Africa, particularly after the expulsion of French and US troops from the region.

AfriForum’s Role in Undermining Black Liberation
The ALM accused AfriForum and its affiliate, Solidarity, of actively undermining the Black liberation struggle in South Africa. The organisations have been criticised for defending colonialism and apartheid symbols, lobbying foreign governments against South Africa’s policies, and opposing Black economic empowerment initiatives.

“AfriForum and Solidarity do not commit South Africa or economic justice for Black people,” the ALM declared. “Their primary interest is to protect the ill-gotten privileges of Europeans in South Africa, particularly stolen land.”

The ALM also criticised AfriForum for exploiting the failures of post-1994 municipalities by providing essential services in Black communities, thereby positioning itself as a legitimate actor while advancing a white supremacist agenda.

A Call for Black Unity and Resistance
The ALM emphasised that Trump’s Executive Order should serve as a wake-up call for Black people in South Africa, Africa, and the diaspora. The movement called for a united front against white supremacy, imperialism, and neocolonialism, urging the South African government to take decisive action.
Key recommendations include:
Reaffirming Independence: The South African government must resist US bullying and assert its sovereignty.
Strengthening Ties with AES: South Africa should support the Alliance of Sahel States in their fight against neocolonial control.

Legislative Review: Existing laws should be amended to classify AfriForum’s lobbying of foreign governments as treason.
Building a Global Black Anti-Imperialist Movement: Black organisations across the continent and the world must unite to challenge imperialism.
Principled Black Unity in Parliament: Progressive Black political parties should use the upcoming State of the Nation Address (SONA) debate to reject Trump’s white supremacist agenda and call for Black unity.

A Moment for Collective Power
The ALM stressed that Black people must prioritise building collective power and unity to achieve respect and liberation. “A group that has no power and is not united will never be respected,” the statement read. The movement called for developing a Black agenda that unites Black people globally in the fight against oppression.
The statement concluded with a rallying cry:
“Down with white supremacy! Down with imperialism! Down with neocolonialism! Forward with Black unity! Forward with a Black agenda!”
