New Details about Today’s Security Council Session on Sudan

The UN Security Council announced that it will hold an open briefing on Sudan this Monday at the request of the Sudanese mission, which submitted a letter to the Council on December 13.

In a press note on Sunday evening, the Council stated that Sudan’s request was supported by the A3 Plus group, comprising Algeria, Sierra Leone, Somalia, and Guyana, as well as by China, Russia, and Pakistan.

The press note indicated that the session is expected to include the participation of the UN Assistant Secretary-General for the Middle East, Asia, and the Pacific in the Departments of Political and Peace-building Affairs and Peace Operations, Mohamed Khaled Khiari; the Director of the Crisis Response Division at the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Edem Wosorno; and a representative of Sudanese civil society.
