Al-Burhan in Sennar: Is the Path Clear Toward Wad Madani?

Port Sudan – Sudanhorizon– Talal Ismail

The Sudanese Armed Forces, supported by the General Intelligence Service’s Counter-Terrorism Unit, special support groups, and mobilized forces, are preparing to advance into Wad Madani, the capital of Al-Gezira State. This follows their Saturday victory, securing Sennar City, the capital of Sennar State.
Cities across Sudan, including Port Sudan, Al-Gadarif, Sennar, Omdurman, and Shendi, celebrated the army’s control of Sennar, a key strategic gateway for liberating Al-Gezira State.
Al-Burhan in Sennar
The Sovereignty Council announced that General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, Chairman of the Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, arrived in Sennar on Saturday. He declared the city liberated from the grip of the rebellious terrorist militia and back under national control. The 17th Infantry Division headquarters was reclaimed, and Al-Burhan reviewed ongoing operations in the Sennar axis.
He congratulated the armed forces, other security forces, joint units, and the Sudanese people on the significant victory, which he described as a turning point in restoring the nation’s dignity and unity.
Al-Burhan emphasized the military’s determination to reclaim every inch of Sudan from the rebels and traitors, vowing to defeat the terrorist militia threatening Sudan’s unity.
“This great victory is dedicated to our people, who have suffered murder, displacement, oppression, looting, and countless atrocities at the hands of the RSF militia. We are committed to cleansing every inch of our homeland desecrated by these criminal militias.”
He expressed hopes for the acceptance of the martyrs and a swift recovery for the wounded who fought valiantly to liberate the historic city of Sennar.
General Intelligence Service Statement
The General Intelligence Service congratulated the Sudanese people and armed forces on Saturday’s significant victory in Sennar. It declared Sennar and Blue Nile states free from the RSF’s grip.
The Service’s Director General, Lieutenant General Ahmed Ibrahim Mufaddal, and his deputies commended the armed forces, intelligence personnel, and mobilized forces for their sacrifices in liberating Sennar.
Mufaddal stated that the victory in Sennar affirms the effectiveness of the military’s operational plans to cleanse the region of the rebellious militia. He assured Sudanese citizens that the ongoing efforts would not cease until all territories occupied by the RSF and foreign mercenaries were fully reclaimed.
Army Statement
In a statement to Sudanhorizon, the Sudanese Armed Forces Spokesperson, Brigadier General Nabil Abdullah, announced:
“We congratulate the resilient Sudanese people on the liberation of Sennar and the recovery of the 17th Infantry Division headquarters. This victory is dedicated to our people who have endured immense suffering at the hands of the RSF militia. We reaffirm our resolve to cleanse every inch of Sudan from these criminal militias.”
He also offered prayers for the martyrs, a speedy recovery for the injured, and relief for the missing and imprisoned.
The Path to Wad Madani
The Sudanese army’s entry into Sennar has paved the way for liberating Al-Gezira State, as Sennar’s control cuts off RSF supply lines to Wad Madani.
On Friday, Al-Gezira’s Governor, Tahir Ibrahim Al-Khair, addressed the media in Port Sudan, highlighting the destruction caused by the RSF in the state. He detailed the militia’s terrorist attacks, including forced displacement of over 1,000 villages, murders, and looting.
Al-Khair praised local and popular resistance efforts supporting the armed forces, indicating significant progress on multiple fronts.
“We assure the people of Al-Gezira that victory is near. The popular resistance working alongside the army has achieved substantial gains.”
Since December, the RSF has committed widespread violations in Al-Gezira State, including seizing control of Wad Madani and expanding across much of the region. However, the Sudanese army has launched multiple operations, advancing from Al-Managil to the west of Wad Madani and from Al-Khayari in Al-Gadarif toward Um Al-Qura.
On October 20, the RSF suffered significant setbacks in eastern Al-Gezira after its commander, Abu Aqla Mohammed Ahmed Kikil, surrendered with his forces and equipment to the Sudanese army. Kikil later aided the army in advancing the Al-Butana axis despite retaliatory RSF attacks in eastern Al-Gezira.
A field source confirmed to Sudanhorizon that the Sudanese army leadership is determined to liberate Al-Gezira and end the suffering of its residents.
