Gold Medal for Sudan at the East Africa Karate Championship

Sudanese champion Omar Khaled (60 kg category) won the gold medal on Saturday morning at the East Africa Karate Championship currently being held in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, following an outstanding performance and strong competition. He successfully defeated five opponents and secured victory in the final against the Ethiopian favorite.

Coach Osama Rafea, Director of the Federation Academy for Karate Training, dedicated this achievement to the Sudanese people, affirming that the victory represents a message of hope and joy amid the current circumstances. He stated that the players and the delegation pledged to raise Sudan’s name high, expressing pride that this achievement coincides with the country’s Independence celebrations.

Rafea praised the significant role played by the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports in supporting and following up on the participation, commending the attention of the Minister of Youth and Sports and the backing of the Ministry’s Undersecretary, which contributed to creating a conducive environment and overcoming obstacles facing the delegation. He also lauded the efforts of the Sudanese Olympic Committee and the Sudanese Karate Federation in preparation and organization.

He further acknowledged the support and assistance provided by River Nile State, noting that the alignment of official efforts had a direct impact on achieving this accomplishment.

Sudan is participating in the championship with three athletes across different weight categories. The competition continues until 23 December, amid hopes for further honorable results for Sudanese sports.
