Cairo – Sudanhorizon

The Minister of Cabinet Affairs and head of the Sudanese delegation participating in the Second Ministerial Conference of the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum, Dr. Lamia Abdel Ghafar Khalafallah, met in Cairo with the Foreign Minister of Equatorial Guinea and member of the African Union Peace and Security Council, Simeon Ondo Okoubo, to discuss Sudan’s return to the African Union, affirming that Sudan has fulfilled all the requirements for lifting the suspension of its membership in the Union.
The meeting came within the framework of bilateral discussions with African foreign ministers participating in the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum, whose activities commenced today (Friday) in Cairo and continue until tomorrow.
Dr. Lamia reviewed the realities of the situation in Sudan since the outbreak of the rebellion by the Rapid Support Forces militia against the state and the Sudanese Armed Forces, pointing to the progress and victories achieved by the Armed Forces and the formation of a civilian government headed by Prime Minister Dr. Kamel Idris.
For his part, the Foreign Minister of Equatorial Guinea expressed his country’s solidarity—both government and people—with the Sudanese people, noting that the President of Equatorial Guinea is closely following developments in Sudan and expressing hope that Sudan will return to the African Union at the earliest possible time.
The meeting was attended by Ambassador Al-Sadiq Elias, Director of the African Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ambassador Mohamed Al-Ghazali Siraj, Sudan’s Ambassador to Moscow.
