Sudan Doctors: 32 Rape Cases of Girls in and Around El Fasher
Khartoum –Sudanhorizon
The Sudan Doctors Network on Sunday reported that it has documented 32 confirmed rape cases of girls from El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, within a single week, following the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia’s takeover of the city.
In a statement, the network said, “based on reliable medical and field information, our team documented 32 confirmed rape cases, within a week, of girls from El Fasher who had reached the Tawila area.”
The statement indicated that some of these incidents occurred within El Fasher after the militia stormed the city, while others were assaulted while attempting to flee to Tawila.
The network condemned the “systematic rape” perpetrated by militia members against women in El Fasher and those fleeing the war, asserting that these violations constitute flagrant breaches of international humanitarian law and amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The network held the militia fully responsible for these crimes, demanding an urgent and independent international investigation, immediate protection for survivors and witnesses, and unrestricted access for medical and humanitarian organizations to provide treatment, psychological support, and legal assistance.
According to the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, at least 25 women were reported gang-raped inside a shelter for displaced people near El Fasher University, where “Rapid Support Forces members selected women at gunpoint and sexually assaulted them,” forcing hundreds of families to flee amidst gunfire.
Adam Rijal, spokesperson for the Darfur Refugee and Displaced Persons Coordination Office, had previously stated that his organization had documented at least 150 cases of sexual violence since the city fell until the beginning of November, noting that some of these crimes occurred within El Fasher itself, while others took place on roads leading to Tawila.
