Dr. Sisi: El Fasher Fall Weakens Negotiation Chances

Dr.Tijani Sisi, head of the Sudanese National Movement Forces, has affirmed that the city of El Fasher could be regained by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF).

In a statement to Sudanhorizon news website on Tuesday, Sisi said SAF had managed to defeat the militias and expel them from Khartoum, Al-Gezirah, and many other areas. He added that recapturing El Fasher and other cities in Darfur and Kordofan is inevitable, noting that El Fasher had displayed over a year and a half of resistance, and that the militias did not take it by force, but rather through a deliberate siege and starvation of civilians.

The head of the National Movement Forces believes that one of the repercussions of the fall of El Fasher would be the negative impact on the chances of negotiation. He said that this was due to the crimes of genocide and ethnic cleansing perpetrated by the Rapid Support Forces militia against unarmed civilians. He added that women, children, the sick, and the hungry were liquidated in a manner unprecedented in the history of the region. He stressed that these crimes committed against specific ethnic groups would constitute an entry point for an ethnic war that would be difficult to contain. He said that El Fasher could pose a direct threat to the cities and villages in northern Sudan states.
