The Head of the Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah Burha n on Thursday said his government is not concerned with the Quartet’s statement regarding Sudan and the Sudan is not party to it.

He emphasized that Sudan is not bound by the outcomes of any initiative in which it did not participate.

Burhan made the statements infrm Doha, few days after the Quartet group—comprising Egypt, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and the United States—presented a road–map for resolving the Sudanese crisis.

On September 12, the foreign ministers of the Quartet agreed on a set of principles to end the war in Sudan, including an initial three-month humanitarian truce, which would immediately lead to a permanent ceasefire, followed by the launch of a comprehensive and transparent transitional process.

According to a statement issued by the Quartet’s foreign ministers, the humanitarian truce would facilitate the rapid delivery of humanitarian aid throughout Sudan.

The discussions outlined a timeline for launching a comprehensive and transparent transitional process, to be completed within nine months, in order to meet the aspirations of the Sudanese people for a smooth establishment of an independent civilian government with broad legitimacy and accountability, which is considered vital for the long-term stability of Sudan and the preservation of its state institutions.

During a meeting with the Sudanese community in Doha, in the presence of a group of journalists, Burhan said that the government is open to any efforts seeking to end the war, provided that the sovereignty and unity of the country and its national institutions are preserved.

He added, “We cannot compromise our sovereignty to serve any country, regardless of our relationship with it.”

He reiterated the government’s commitment to protecting and supporting anyone who lays down their arms and joins the national cause.

He said, “Any opposition politician who comes to their senses and realize the right path will find a welcoming environment in the political arena.”

The head of the Sovereign Council emphasized that Sudanese people will prevail in their existential war against the rebel militia, adding, “We will not lay down our arms until we lift the siege on Fasher, Zalengei, and Babanousa, and liberate every inch of land that has been tainted by the rebellion.”

Burhan also reiterated Sudan’s support for Qatar in face of Israeli aggression, praising its commendable stance towards the Sudanese people.
