Attorney General: Sudan Committed to Cooperating with Human Rights Commission

The Sudanese Attorney General,Ms. Intisar Ahmed Abdel-Aal, held a meeting on Thursday with the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, in attendance were his senior aides. She conveyed to the human rights top official Sudan’s commitment to cooperating with the mechanisms of the Commission.
The Commissioner commended the cooperation with his office in Sudan and the facilitation of the resumption of the country office’s activities through their temporary office in Port Sudan.
He also expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by the National Commission and the reports it prepared and submitted to the Human Rights Council. He affirmed his readiness, through his office in Sudan, to provide technical support, particularly with regard to human rights, indemnity for victims, and everything that would enhance confidence and address the effects of the war.
He also indicated his interest and close monitoring of developments in Sudan, a priority for him since assuming this position.
During the meeting, the Attorney General debriefed the official on the work of the National Commission, the Public Prosecution, and the judicial authorities concerned with serving justice, the rule of law, accountability, and preventing impunity.
She also reviewed, through statistics and data, the actions taken by the National Committee regarding the cases that were registered and those that were referred to the judiciary and adjudicated, emphasizing the integrity and independence of the Committee and the competence, ability, and desire of the Sudanese judiciary to achieve justice and redress for victims in a legally fair and transparent manner.
The Attorney General reiterated the Sudanese government’s commitment and keenness to cooperate with the mechanisms of the country’s Human Rights Commission.
She emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships and cooperation with the Office of the High Commissioner in the country, particularly expanding support and capacity-building programs in the areas of monitoring, preserving, and analyzing digital forensic evidence, and all procedural and legal systems, as well as cooperation and support in the areas of redress for victims, preventing impunity, and prosecuting perpetrators of atrocities.
