Khartoum – Sudanhorizon – Talal Ismail
Lieutenant General Yasser Al-Atta, member of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council and Assistant to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces reaffirmed the Sudanese military’s commitment to the civilian transition and the implementation of the roadmap proposed by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Chairman of the Sovereign Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
In exclusive remarks to Al-Muhaqiq and SudanHorizons, Lt. Gen. Al-Atta stated that the Armed Forces “will not interfere” in the work of Prime Minister Kamal Idris and emphasised that the Sovereign Council has granted the Prime Minister “full executive authority” to carry out his duties.
“The appointment of a civilian Prime Minister marks the beginning of the civilian transition, following the military victories achieved by our Armed Forces on the ground,” he said.
“We reaffirm our commitment to ensuring the civilian transition reaches its conclusion.”
Military Advances and Militia Collapse
On the military front, Lt. Gen. Al-Atta confirmed significant field progress across all fronts, predicting the “complete and total collapse” of the remaining Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia factions.
He praised the unwavering support of the Sudanese people from all segments of society for the Armed Forces since the war erupted in mid-April 2023.
The Transitional Roadmap
In February 2024, Sovereign Council Chairman al-Burhan announced a transitional roadmap that includes:
Formation of a new government.
A framework for an all-inclusive Sudanese dialogue involving all political forces.
A post-war phase leading to general elections.
Lt. Gen. Al-Atta’s remarks underscore the military’s stated commitment to transferring power to civilian leadership while continuing its campaign against the RSF.
