Sudan Submits a Strong Worded Memo to Human Rights Regarding Militia Attacks
Geneva – Sudanhorizon
Sudan’s Permanent Representative to Geneva, Ambassador Hassan Hamid, submitted a strongly worded memorandum, accompanied by a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, during his meeting on Friday with Maaret Cohanen-Sharif, Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights, and her senior aides responsible for the Sudan file at the Office of the High Commissioner. The memorandum addressed the systematic attacks launched by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia against vital facilities and infrastructure.
The Permanent Representative provided the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights with a comprehensive briefing on the series of systematic attacks launched by the terrorist militia against strategic civilian facilities using drones supplied by the militia’s sponsor, the United Arab Emirates, and launched from within Ethiopian territory. This constitutes a flagrant violation of the UN Charter, international humanitarian law, and international human rights law.
For her part, Maaret confirmed that the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights has been closely monitoring, through its country office in Sudan, the widening scope of targeting and escalating drone attacks on civilian service facilities, including electricity and energy stations and markets, which exacerbates the suffering of civilians, noting that they are going to include this in their periodic report next November.
