Geological Research Authority: Plan to Develop State Offices, Enhance Contribution to National Economy

The Director General of the Geological Research Authority, Ahmed Haroun Al-Toum, has confirmed that the Authority is implementing a comprehensive program to develop its state offices. This program focuses on training human resources, completing infrastructure, and expanding production projects to support work efficiency and enhance the mining sector’s contribution to the national economy.
During a meeting at his office on Saturday with representatives from the Authority’s Northern State office, headed by Geologist Consultant Makki Omar Saleh, Haroun explained that the Authority aims to complete the necessary work environment requirements by the end of 2026. This will be achieved by providing transportation, solar energy systems, and work aids, as well as implementing a training program that categorizes employees according to their technical levels to ensure more efficient and effective training. He noted that the program will be launched in the Northern State and will be gradually rolled out to the remaining states.
Al-Toum revealed the Authority’s intention to diversify its revenue streams through productive projects in partnership with the private sector. He explained that the salt project has completed its contractual procedures and is expected to enter the operational phase in the coming period, as part of efforts to maximize the added value of mineral resources.
For his part, the Director of Financial and Human Resources Affairs at the Authority, Essam El-Din Babiker, affirmed the senior management’s focus on the state offices during the past period through continuous field visits, which contributed to improving the work environment and raising performance efficiency, particularly in the Northern State.
He explained that the Authority, despite the challenges of war, is proceeding according to an institutional plan for reconstruction, which includes improving employee service conditions, preparing a new law for the Authority, and implementing productive projects that enhance financial sustainability.
Similarly, the Director of the State Offices Department at the Authority, Al-Tayeb Jalis, explained that the Authority’s office in the Northern State has witnessed progress in developing its technical and administrative infrastructure, after implementing a large part of the requirements of the first phase. Arrangements are continuing to complete the second phase with the support of senior management.
He noted the office’s readiness to participate in the comprehensive geological survey project and to follow up on the marble project through specialized technical studies.
Jalis pointed out that the Northern State possesses the required elements to serve as a model for state offices in supporting geological research and serving the mining sector.
