Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan, Amna Mirghani Hassan Al-Tom, met with Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ahmed Mudawi Musa to discuss ways to activate banking finance mechanisms to support the rehabilitation and maintenance of university staff housing and the installation of solar energy systems.
The meeting, held on Saturday, was attended by Central Bank of Sudan First Deputy Governor Al-Mu’tasim Abdullah, General Manager of the Real Estate Bank Othman Abdel Azim, and several Central Bank specialists.
The participants agreed to establish a financing fund led by the Real Estate Bank to provide the funding needed to rehabilitate and maintain housing and install solar energy systems under appropriate financing arrangements. The initiative aims to improve living conditions, support the stability of academic staff and strengthen their ability to continue fulfilling their educational mission.
The initiative comes within the framework of the Central Bank of Sudan’s 2026 priorities, which seek to direct bank financing towards supporting economic recovery and reconstruction, improving housing conditions and expanding the use of clean energy.
The meeting emphasised the importance of continued coordination to complete the technical and financial arrangements required to establish the fund, determine its funding sources and operational mechanisms, and establish eligibility criteria to ensure that the initiative is implemented in accordance with approved banking policies and regulations.
