In response to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s request for the necessary authorization, the Egyptian House of Representatives has decided to hold an emergency plenary session tomorrow, Sunday, to discuss regional developments and Egypt’s position on protecting the security and stability of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The session comes as part of Egypt’s reaffirmation of its support for the Kingdom and Cairo’s readiness to take any measures requested by Riyadh, in line with the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Earlier on Saturday, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi called on the House of Representatives to convene an emergency session to authorize him to intervene should Saudi Arabia request it.
Speaking at a graduation ceremony for military college students, Sisi said Egypt would take any action necessary to protect and defend Saudi Arabia, in accordance with the directives of King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
The Egyptian president expressed his sincere gratitude and appreciation to Egypt’s Gulf partners, particularly Saudi Arabia, for their support following the events of 2013. He said their assistance, including the provision of gas and oil shipments, had been offered without conditions, adding that Egypt would have faced an uncertain path without their support.
President Sisi has previously stressed that Egypt and Saudi Arabia represent the heart of the Arab and Islamic worlds, affirming that Egypt would not accept any threat to the Kingdom’s security or borders.
He emphasized that targeting Saudi Arabia would affect both Arab and Egyptian national security. He also reiterated Egypt’s rejection of any threat to the security of the Red Sea and international maritime routes, stressing that Cairo’s priority was to preserve the Kingdom’s security and stability and reduce regional escalation.
