Russia and China Emphasize Preserving Sudan’s Sovereignty and Unity

New York – Sudanhorizon
Vassily Nebenzia, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, has called for the adoption of “necessary measures to launch a political process and a dialogue among the Sudanese parties.”
During his address at a UN Security Council session on Sudan on Friday , Nebenzia affirmed that the Sovereign Council of Sudan represents the country’s legitimate authority. He stated that Russia supports the preservation of Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
He noted that government authorities have made significant progress in North and South Kordofan, successfully preventing the city of El Obeid from falling into the hands of “rebels.”
During the same session, the Chinese representative to the Security Council stressed the need to uphold fairness and justice, respect Sudan’s sovereignty, preserve its unity and territorial integrity, and oppose the establishment of a parallel government.
The Chinese representative pointed out that it is important to acknowledge that the Sudanese government enjoys broad popular support. He argued that the government should be supported in implementing peace initiatives, conducting inclusive national dialogues, and advancing a political process that is Sudanese-led and Sudanese-owned.
Furthermore, the Chinese representative called for preventing external powers from imposing solutions on Sudan, noting that pressure and coercion cannot lead to a lasting peace.
